Why Nantahala Gorge
The Nantahala Gorge cuts a steep, mile-deep path through the mountains of western North Carolina, famous nationwide for whitewater rafting and kayaking on the Nantahala River. The word “Nantahala” is Cherokee for “land of the noonday sun” — the gorge walls are so steep and close together that direct sunlight only reaches the river bottom around midday.
Carved With the Same Appalachian Craft
A gorge carves differently than a peak — instead of a single summit, it’s the drop of the canyon walls and the line of the river that give the piece its depth. Every carving starts with real elevation data turned into an accurate 3D model, then CNC-carved and hand-finished in black walnut, cherry, white oak, or ash. In light, straight-grained ash, Nantahala’s steep walls carve in clean and contemporary.
Make It Yours
Every order starts with a digital 3D rendering for your approval, so you see exactly what you’re getting before a single cut is made. Choose your size, your wood, and how you’d like it mounted — desk, wall, or both.
